Fan Page Plugin Using a Twitter List

Tutorialzine wrote an excellent tutorial a couple of days ago, titled “A Twitter List Powered Fan Page”.   They encouraged others to customize their demo.  So I decided to make it a WordPress Plugin / Widget.

Check out Tutorialzine’s Demo!

With this initial release, I have not made any major changes just yet.  From the settings page you can disable the default css and write your own.  I have also listed the ID and class heirarchy.  The next release will allow you to make changes to the config.php file from the settings page.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Download then unzip file.
  2. Put the “geekee-fanpage-block” folder inside your “wp-content/plugins” folder.
  3. Activate the plugin in your Plugins Admin.
  4. See below.

How to use:

Add the FanPage Block to your site by going to “Appearance” then “Widgets”.  You will see a Widget “FanPage Block”.  Drag that to your sidebar.  Add your twitter username, password, and list name to the config.php file located in the plugin directory; wp-content/plugins/geekee-fanpage-block/config.php.

Changelog:

1.0        First Release:  can disable css and add your own from plugin settings.

    Hi,

Got the following suggestions for this excellent plugin in your next update.

First of all, I suggest adding two option in the plugin admin setting page to fill in username and password and have the plugin config.php to call out the username and password using get_option()

Secondly, the plugin admin should check for WordPress nonce value before updating its option into the WordPress option database. This is a good way to ensure that the values are submitted by admin and not some worm script.

Hope the above feedback is useful for the development of this excellent plugin.

    Thanks!

    Denzel

Thanks for the suggestions Denzel. Once we get through all of the holidays, I should be putting a round of updates through on all my plugins.

Hi there! I looked far and wide for this plug in! It is exactly what I want and need. I’m integrating my P2 theme with a particular twitter list.

Problem is that every time I try to add a twitter username to the widget it says that “no such twitter username exists”.

    Any suggestions?!

    LOVE this plugin! So creative!
